Filomena Campus tours internationally + Monk Misterioso UK tour this autumn

unnamedThis autumn sees Filomena Campus embark on a UK tour with Theatralia’s new production of MONK Misterioso to mark the centenary of Thelonious Monk, culminating at the EFG London Jazz Festival on 18 November.
With her quartet she will also tour to Tanger and Doha, before returning to their familiar venue, the PizzaExpress Jazz Club in London’s Soho late November to present their new project ‘Queen Mab’.

Marking the centenary of Thelonious Monk in the autumn, this new ACE funded production explores the world of the unique revolution he brought into jazz composition and piano playing. Based on text by the Italian writer Stefano Benni and visuals by SDNA, Campus’ direction focuses on the mystery of the last seven years, when Monk decided to close himself into a mysterious silence. 

Filomena Campus is as a narrator and vocalist joined on stage by Cleveland WatkissPat ThomasOrphy Robinson, MD Rowland Sutherland and Dudley Phillips. For the London Jazz Festival performance at King’s Place Jean Toussaint and Mark Mondesir will join the band as well.

Launch event by Culture& at the British Library. A curated evening of live performance and an illustrated lecture by Errol Francis and Candace Allen on Thelonious Monk: Modernist Pioneer. Live music by vocalist Filomena Campus and pianistPeter Edwards.
CinemaItalia UK Screening of Misterioso, followed by live music with vocal duo Filomena Campus and Cleveland Watkiss.
14 NOVEMBER
Regent Street Cinema, 7:30pm
The EFG London Jazz Festival hosts a series of events on 18 November to mark the centenary of Thelonious Monk starting with a vocal workshop with Filomena Campus and Cleveland Watkiss. Mental health organisation MIND moderate a panel discussion on the relationship between jazz artists and mental health. And the evening continues with a post-performance DJ-night with JazzFM’s Chris Philips and Ruth Fisher.
